How to Improve Your Thinking Skills

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why didn’t I think of that?” We have found the trick on how to improve your thinking skills, and you will not believe the solution is this simple!

According to John Medina in Brain Rules, “Our brains were built for walking to the tune of 12 miles per day.” Numerous studies have also demonstrated exercise is good for the body and the brain. Walking helps blood get to our brains, which brings glucose for energy and oxygen and stimulate the protein that keeps the connections moving with neutrons.

Scientists have also found that an active lifestyle is enhancing aging; people who move more, reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Movement is also closely associated with stress-relief and improved moods of those previously diagnosed with depression.

Physical movement elevates the cognitive performance, importing the ability to reason quickly, think abstractly, and improvise building off knowledge to solve problems.  According to Medina, in four months of exercise, you can get your brain “back online” and increase your ability to think.

Steve Jobs was a fan of “walking meetings,” and so is Mark Zuckerberg. Going outside gets you out of the same old environment, helps you connect with nature with fresh air, brings in sunshine and helps your creative juices start to flow. Walking is also an equalizer, as people side by side tend to have a better focus on issues rather than at the other person.

The bottom line: If you want to improve your thinking skills; get moving! Literally.
