This is great news for the Medicare Supplement market. Anthem (WellPoint) is now offering guarantee issue Medicare Supplements in the following states: CA, CO, GA, KY, CT, IN, ME, MO, NH, NV, OH, WI. Beginning October 15th for policies with a November 1, 2010 effective date, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield is providing guaranteed issue for eligible individuals who switch from an existing Medicare Supplement policy to a new Medicare Supplement policy with equal or lesser benefits.
That’s correct; Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield will accept new Medicare Supplement members without need for health history or underwriting. Eligible applicants must simply have an existing Medicare Supplement policy with any carrier and apply for an Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicare Supplement policy of equal or lesser benefits.
This means it’s easier than ever for your customers to get the plan they need. And it’s easier for you to sell and increase your earnings with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield’s highly competitive commission structure.

Although applicants can switch for effective dates throughout the entire 2011 calendar year, you’ll want to get started now to help ensure your customers are on the right plan for them…and that your commissions are building early.
Applicants must complete the Section F: Conditions of Application. While online applicants will need to complete the Health History in order to successfully navigate through the online system, as long as they are applying for an Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Medicare Supplement policy of equal or lesser benefits, their application will not need underwriting and the Health History information will not be reviewed or considered.
