CVS CAREMARK to Purchase Universal American’s Medicare Part D Business

For anyone that has $1.25 billion in the bank, you could have bought Universal American’s Medicare Part D membership.  Since we all are a little short, CVS Caremark decided to step up and make Universal American an offer.

All joking aside, this is big news in the Medicare Part D market.  CVS has about 1.25 million Part D members and this purchase will add another 1.9 million.  This instantly puts them into the big league with companies like Humana and UnitedHealthcare.

The net effect for agents is not fully known yet, but Universal American’s FAQ states that agents will continue to receive renewal commission.
