Assurant Health was founded in 1892 and became a part of Assurant in 1978. Assurant Health writes individual and short-term health insurance and small employer group health insurance to employer groups primarily of two to 50 employees. The company also offers health insurance plans to full-time college students. Assurant Health serves approximately 1.1 million people throughout the United States. As a result of the Medicare Prescription & Modernization Act passed in January, 2004, Assurant Health was one of the first companies to offer the tax-advantaged Health Savings Account – a tax-deductible savings account that is paired with a high deductible insurance plan to cover current and future medical expenses. Assurant Health currently has an “A” (Excellent) AM Best Rating.
